Advancing Cardiac Care
This month, we are highlighting how Ventripoint supports researcher to demonstrate the VMS+ advantage. In THE POiNT IS, we talk to Dario Freitas, Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, London, UK, about how VMS+ could benefit patients living with repaired Tetralogy of Fallot.
The PLUS of VMS+
Making Heart Monitoring Easier for Adults with Repaired Tetralogy of Fallot
New research suggests that VMS+ could simplify routine check-ups.
For adults living with repaired Tetralogy of Fallot (rToF)—a congenital heart condition—keeping track of right heart function is vital. Traditionally, cardiac MRI has been the gold standard for these measurements, but it’s not always easy to access.
A recent study, led by Dario Freitas, looked at whether VMS+ could provide a practical alternative.
Researchers followed 34 rToF patients and 22 healthy volunteers, and compared VMS+ results with cMRI.
They found that VMS+ was highly feasible, closely matched cMRI measurements, and remained consistent between different operators. While cMRI remains the benchmark, VMS+ makes routine monitoring more convenient and help clinicians keep a closer eye on heart health over time.
“Our findings show that VMS+ can offer a reliable and accessible option for ongoing care, with appropriate training, especially when cardiac MRI isn’t readily available,” said Dario Freitas, lead author of the study.
Why This Matters
Adults with repaired Tetralogy of Fallot often need lifelong monitoring to prevent complications. Easier, more accessible imaging options like VMS+ could reduce delays in care and improve long-term outcomes.
Tech+
Each month, our engineering team highlight’s one aspect of VMS+’s expanding capabilities. This month: VMS+ Global Longitudinal Strain*.
Challenge: Measuring right-ventricular GL strain with speckle-tracking echo is tricky because the ventricle’s thin, irregular shape and complex motion make accurate tracking difficult.
Solution:
Our new VMS+ GL Strain solves this by combining the motion data for the whole 3D model into a single global measure without the need for additional images or software licenses.
Benefits
- Highly robust measurements based on established VMS+ 3D KBR
- Available as standard: no additional license
- Time saving: no additional scans required
